Philippines: Maasin City Seeks Private Sector Participation in Land Reclamation Project
The Maasin City government seeks private sector participation in a land reclamation plan. According to the city, the project is necessary to provide additional space for commercial development.
Crown Regency Hotels and Resorts and Monolith Construction and Development Corp. have expressed interest in this P1-billion project.
Mayor Maloney L. Samaco said: “There are initial talks with interested firms but we still have to open this for bidding because we have to go through the legal process.”
According to BusinessWorld, the project still has to be granted permits from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Philippine Reclamation Authority.
Samaco added: “Our land is mostly mountainous. The only way to expand business in Maasin is to reclaim [land].”
About P300 million worth of investment have been attracted in 2011.
