U.S.-based Crowley Maritime on Friday took delivery of the last of four LNG-ready product tankers built by Philly Shipyard.

The tanker named West Virginia, is scheduled for christening on August 16, before starting work for its Charterer, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, Crowley said in its statement.

West Virginia, the 50,000 dead-weight-tons (dwt) tanker capable of carrying 330,000 barrels of crude oil or refined products is based on a Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design.

The vessel is 600 feet long and is capable of carrying crude oil or refined petroleum products, as well as various chemical cargoes.

Together with its sister ships Louisiana, Ohio and Texas, the West Virginia is among the first tankers ever to receive the American Bureau of Shipping’s (ABS) LNG-Ready Level 1 approval. This allows Crowley to convert the vessel to LNG propulsion in the future.

The latest delivery completes the four vessel contract between Crowley and Philly Shipyard. With the delivery the shipyard sold its interest in the PSI-Crowley joint venture with respect to that vessel to a subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum Corporation, completely divesting its interest in the JV, Philly Shipyard said.
