Photo: Anadarko installs Heidelberg topsides

Anadarko has moved a step forward towards reaching first oil from its Heidelberg development in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

The company, through its social media channels, said it installed the topsides onto the Heidelberg spar. The installation, carried out by the Dutch company Heerema Marine Contractors, using the world’s largest crane vessel the Thialf, was conducted last weekend.

This 80,000-barrels-of-oil-per-day floating production facility is a twin to the Lucius spar, which began producing oil earlier this year in the Gulf of Mexico.

Heidelberg is expected to achieve first oil in 2016.
