The largest ship in the world, ‘Pieter Schelte’ has arrived to the Port of Rotterdam today, Thursday January 08.

The ship will be docked in Alexiahaven where the final assembly will take place.

The 65 metre long beams of the topsides lift system will be installed on the vessel during the first months of 2015.

The lifting beams have been constructed in Italy and transported by ship to the Netherlands.

‘Pieter Schelte’, that took to the seas for the first time for sea trials in September, is a 382 metres long and 124 metres wide, and it is intended for installing and removing topsides and jackets of large offshore oil and gas platforms in a single lift.

The vessel can lift topsides of offshore platforms weighing up to 48,000 tonnes and jackets up to 25,000 tonnes.

‘Pieter Schelte’ will start offshore operations in the summer of 2015.
