Picture of the day: Galea transiting expanded Panama Canal

Panama Canal on Monday informed that the day started with the transit of the first LNG MOSS-type carrier. 

The 136,600-cbm LNG carrier Galea, transited the locks loaded with a Peruvian cargo.

The vessel departed Peru’s only liquefaction and export facility on August 22 and set course for France. It is only the second cargo Peru shipped to France this year, so far.

The first LNG carrier to transit the expanded Panama Canal was the 161,870-cbm Maran Gas Apollonia, chartered by the Hague-based LNG giant Shell, loaded with a cargo from Cheniere’s Sabine pass liquefaction plant.

The expanded canal will be able to accommodate about 90 percent of the world’s current LNG tankers. Only the Q-Flex and Q-Max tankers used for exports from Qatar, will not be able to use the canal.
