Petronet LNG has in 2013 opened South India’s first LNG import terminal with a nameplate capacity of 5 Mtpa at Kochi, Kerala.

The terminal is located in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Puthuvypeen near the entrance to Cochin Port. The jetty is designed to receive LNG tankers between 65,000 to 216,000 cubic metres.

Kochi terminal has two LNG storage tanks with a capacity of 155,000 cubic metres each.

According to Pertonet’s website, South Asia’s first LNG reloading operation was carried out at the terminal in January of 2015.

India’s largest LNG importer also said it has conducted bunkering operations to small ships at Kochi in February this year.
