Pieridae secures non-FTA LNG export approval from US DOE

Canada’s Pieridae Energy said Monday it has won an approval from the US Department of Energy to export LNG to countries without a free trade agreement from the proposed 10 mtpa Goldboro LNG project in Nova Scotia.

The approval was received on February 5, and allows US sourced natural gas to be exported as LNG to countries which do not have a free-trade agreement with the United States.

In May 2015, Pieridae received authorization from the Department of Energy to export natural gas to Canada for end use in Canada and for further export to countries with which the USA has free trade agreements for trade in natural gas.

Pieridae also received long-term licenses from the National Energy Board of Canada to import natural gas from the USA and to export LNG from Canada.

These authorizations will allow Pieridae to “more efficiently manage gas supply feedstock for LNG deliveries to Western and Southern Europe, where its primary customer Uniper Global Commodities S.E. (formerly E.ON Global Commodities S.E.), has its base of operations,” the company said.

Pieridae expects to make the final investment decision in late 2016.
