Pilot Dies while Disembarking Ship in Port of Lisbon

A ship pilot in Portugal’s Port of Lisbon has lost his life while he was disembarking from the Hong Kong-flagged containership Singapore Express.

The pilot, identified as Barra Miguel Conceição, died after falling from the 66,793 dwt vessel into the water in Cascais Bay in the early morning hours of February 28.

According to Lisbon Port Authority’s report of the incident, efforts to recover Conceição by the pilot boat were hampered by sea and weather conditions at the site. His body was later recovered from the water.

Relevant authorities launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

The 2000-built vessel Singapore Express continued its journey to Morocco’s port of Tanger Med, where it arrived on March 1, data from MarineTraffic shows.
