PNG LNG ships 24 cargoes in Q1

Papua New Guinea’s first LNG export plant, operated by ExxonMobil, shipped 24 cargoes of the chilled gas in the first quarter of this year.

Gross gas production for the first quarter was 103.5 PJ, measured at the inlet of the LNG plant, Santos, which holds a 13,5 percent stake in the PNG LNG project, said in its first quarter report.

The 6.9 million tonnes per year facility, located 25 kilometres north-west of Port Moresby, exported its first cargo to Tepco of Japan in May of 2014. The facility shipped 55 LNG cargoes during the year of 2014.

In addition to ExxonMobil and Santos, co-venturers in the PNG LNG project are Oil Search, National Petroleum Company of PNG, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration, Mineral Resources Development Company (representing landowners) and Petromin PNG.
