PNG LNG Welcomes Heavy Weight Champion on Site

There is one heavy weight champion that towers over all others and has attracted many spectators during its debut in PNG.

Weighing in at 546 tonnes, and the heaviest crane lift at the PNG LNG Plant Site, the amine absorber travelled all the way from Korea via ship and then a 192-wheeled self-propelled modular transporter before arriving safe and sound at the Project site.

It took a great deal of dedication from sea, road and plant crews to ensure the safe and successful arrival and installation of this enormous piece of equipment.

During transport from the port at Motukea Island to the Plant Site, although the heavy load was travelling at a mere 5km per hour, average wait times for road users were reduced to approximately 20 minutes thanks to reopened sections of the old road.

The amine absorber plays an important role in the LNG production process by removing carbon dioxide (C02) from the incoming FEED gas prior to super cooling and liquefying the gas.
