Poland: Remontowa Hands Over Another LNG-Fueled Ferry

Remontowa Hands Over Another LNG-Fueled Ferry

The ceremonial raising of the flag on the last of four LNG-fueled ferries built for one of the biggest Norwegian owners –Torghatten Nord AS took place in Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A on 8th of January 2013.

During three years of cooperation with the owner Remontowa shipyard constructed eight modern ferries of different propulsion features, engine power as well as range of served routes.

In the middle of 2010 the shipyard started construction of two diesel powered, double – ended, car–passengers ferries. Since October 2011 these two vessels have served public transport in Tromsø region. The 36 meter-long ferries of modern design operated by three-person crew take on board 47 passengers and 16 cars. Both ferries REBBENESØY and ULØYTIND were named as a result of unofficial competition among the local community, which is very satisfied with the use of the ferries.

The construction of the second series of Ro-Pax type ferries was completed on 10th of December 2011. Ferries VENGSØY and KVALØY bear the names of the islands situated in the northern part of Norway and serve car – passenger transport in this area. The ships can take on board 147 passengers and 21 cars.

In December 2012, construction of the next series of four modern, car – passenger ferries was completed. The gas powered ferries meet restrictive, ecological rules regarding the emission of harmful substances to the atmosphere.

Ferries LANDEGODE, VÆROY, BODØ, and LØDINGEN are designed for serving public transport in Lofted Archipelago region. The ferries can take on board 390 passengers and 120 cars.

The adoption of unconventional propulsion by using LNG fuel limits the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere, which is an indisputable advantage of these vessels serving the local routes between the islands. Building of innovative gas powered ferries has become one of the main specialties of Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. over the past years.

The series of four latest generation ferries, delivered to Torghatten Nord A.S, confirms strong position of Remontowa on demanding Scandinavian market.

The vessel’s concept was created as a result of cooperation between the Norwegian Design office LMG Obrazek and Polish Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting Sp. z o.o.
