The survey in the Orange Basin is scheduled to start January 25 and end in March. As part of the 3D seismic contract with Galp, Polarcus’ vessel will cover an area of around 3,000 square kilometers.

The PEL83 license, awarded in August 2016 by the Ministry of Mines and Energy to a Galp-led consortium that also includes the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia and Custos Energy, covers a total area of around 10,000 km2.

The area is located approximately 260 km from Lüderitz in what is considered a “Frontier Exploration Basin.”

Galp did not say which vessel will be used by Polarcus for the operation. According to Marine Traffic, there are currently three Polarcus’ seismic vessels operating in Africa, the Polarcus Asima, the Polarcus Adira, and the Polarcus Alima.

Polarcus Alima, per Marine Traffic, is currently in South Africa, which is the closest to the Galp survey location in Namibia. Marine Traffic shows the other two vessels mentioned are currently in Mauritania.
