Polish Yard to Build Its First OSVs Powered by LNG

Polish shipyard Remontowa Shipbuilding has received an order to construct two offshore support vessels for, what they described as, “one of the biggest Norwegian offshore fleet owners.”

The yard said in a statement that the value of the order was approximately 100 million euro, and that the vessels will, once delivered, work for Shell in the North Sea. The contract documents were signed last Friday, July 5. Remontowa did not disclose the name of the client nor the expected delivery dates.

The contract represents a milestone for the Gdansk-based yard since the vessels will be the first LNG-powered supply vessels built by Remontowa.

The vessels will be equipped with state-of-the-art navigation systems including an advanced dynamical positioning system DP2, gas-electric propulsion, firefighting system Fi-Fi 2 and facilities for containing of oil spills. The 89 meter long ships with a deck area of 980 m2 will be capable of carrying up to 5400 tons. They will be served by a 25-man crew each.
