Porto Central Inks Port Construction Deal with Van Oord

Brazilian joint venture Porto Central and Dutch dredging firm Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors signed an agreement for the development and construction of Porto Central.

As a joint venture between the Port of Rotterdam and TPK Logística, Porto Central is a greenfield multipurpose port being developed in Espírito Santo, Brazil.

Under the agreement, the parties have established an integrated team, which works on a fast-track process from conceptual design to construction and operation of the port.

During the first phase of the development, the focus will be on the clients of Porto Central. Also, the conditions and requirements of the necessary permits and approvals will be fully incorporated in the designs and plans. The second phase deals with optimizing construction methods and schedules to enable the port operators to start with their operations as soon as possible. The third phase of the cooperation is the actual construction of the port.

The development of Porto Central will serve several industries, such as oil & gas, mining, agribulk, offshore supply, shipyard and others.

Various cargos will be handled such as containers, soybeans, crude oil, oil products, LNG, iron ore, vehicles, marble and granite, fertilizers and other general cargos.

The port will be developed in phases to a deep-water port with up to 25 meters draft, capable of receiving deep-draught vessels such as the largest bulk carriers in the world and Very Large Crude Oil Carriers (VLCCs).

Consisting of an area of around 2.000 hectares, Porto Central will be able to accommodate various large-scale terminals along its 10 km of berths and piers.
