President Tours Kyee Ni Lake Dredging

Myanmar’s President Thein Sein yesterday went on an inspection tour of the Kyee Ni lake dredging program, located in the township of Yamathin, Mandalay Region.

During the visit, the president was joined by Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker, Khin Aung Myint and union ministers.

According to Myanmar News Agency, the president oversaw the construction of spillways and sluice gates, with engineers giving progress reports of the project.

The lake, after being restored, is expected to irrigate 8,129 acres of monsoon and summer paddy plantations and provide water to the people of nearby areas. Upon completion, this project will also protect housings and farmlands from flooding.
