Prosafe lays up 34 years old offshore accommodation rig

Prosafe, world’s largest provider of offshore accommodation rigs, will lay-up one of its flotels.

According to the company’s update, the Jasminia flotel remained off hire in the fourth quarter of 2015, and will now be moved to a lay-up location.

The Jasminia, currently in Mexico, has been out of contract since the early 2015. The rig, offering a maximum of 535 beds, was built in 1982 at the GVA yard in Sweden to a GVA 2000 design.

Prosafe, active in Mexico, said that its Safe Regency, Safe Lancia, Safe Hibernia and Safe Britannia flotels were fully contracted in Mexico throughout the fourth quarter. Safe Britannia contract ended year-end, but the vessel still remains in operational readiness mode in Mexico.

The company currently currently owns 12 vessels, and three new builds in progress. This makes it the world’s largest flotel provider, three times bigger than the largest competitor, Floatel, which ownes five accommodation units.

Within the next few days, Prosafe is expected to take delivery of Safe Zephyrus, built at Jurong Shipyard in Singapore. The rig is scheduled to start work in the North Sea early in the third quarter 2016. The Safe Zephyrus will be deployed on Ivar Aasen field, offshore Norway.
