PSI Lays Keel for APT’s 2nd LNG-Ready Product Tanker

Philly Shipyard (PSI), part of Philly Shipyard ASA, held yesterday a keel laying ceremony for the second product tanker in a four-vessel order for American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan.

Once completed in 2017, the tanker will be 600 feet long and capable of carrying 50,000 tons of crude oil or refined petroleum products, according to PSI.

All four Tier II 50,000 dwt product tankers ordered from APT are based on a Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design. They will be constructed with consideration for the use of LNG for propulsion in the future, as explained by PSI.

PSI says that the delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2016 and 2017.

In addition, PSI has another 50,000 dwt product tanker under construction for Crowley Maritime Corporation with a planned delivery during Q3 2016 and two 3,600 TEU containerships for Matson Navigation Company that will be delivered in Q3 2018 and Q1 2019.
