PTT sourcing long-term LNG supplies

PTT of Thailand is looking to negotiate LNG import deals with several gas suppliers in order to secure long-term supply.

Although the company has not revealed the names of parties it is in talks with, other than Anadarko Petroleum, one of the possible suppliers is Chevron, Reuters reports.

Speaking at the World gas Conference in Paris, Pailin Chuchottaworn, PTT’s chief executive said the company is looking to extend its cooperation with Qatargas with which PTT has a deal to import 2 mtpa of LNG over the next 20 years.

A fifth of Thailand’s gas supplies are delivered from Myanmar but as Thailand’s neighbour is looking to use more natural gas for local development, gas supplies to Thailand are expected to drop.

On the short-term supply front, PTT is looking to buy LNG on the spot market and is looking to collaborate with Total of France and Shell.

PTT expects that Thailand’s gas consumption is expected to rise up to 4% in 2015.
