Pulse Completes Subsea Monitoring of Gunfleet Sands OWF

Pulse Structural Monitoring (Pulse), an Acteon company, has finished a subsea integrity monitoring project for a DONG Energy offshore wind farm.

Pulse supplied a system to measure the motion of a number of unsupported sections of subsea cable at the Gunfleet Sands wind farm in the UK sector of the Southern North Sea. The investigation was to determine the impact of tidal activity on the fatigue life of the cable.

The project began in November 2013 and included project management, sensor delivery, offshore support and post processing data analysis. Pulse’s solution included four Pulse INTEGRIpodTM motion data loggers which provided a detailed record of the cable’s motions throughout the study period. This data was used to confirm the acceptable fatigue performance of the cable. HBC divers were contracted to install the subsea data loggers.

John Weldon, project manager, Pulse, said, “Pulse draws on skills and experience from 16 years of subsea integrity monitoring within the offshore oil and gas and renewable energy sectors. DONG selected us for this project on the basis of our excellent track record and its successful completion underlines our position as a leading supplier of subsea integrity monitoring for all areas of the offshore energy industry. We have again shown that our systems offer a robust and affordable solution to integrity monitoring on a range of offshore assets.”

Rasmus Hauberg Møller, senior project lead, DONG Energy, said, “We were very pleased with the cooperation with Pulse and the monitoring campaign supplied us with valuable information.”
