Qatar, Croatia Sign MoU in Energy Technology Sector

Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, recently went on an official visit to Croatia, during which he met with Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and he also signed an MOU between the Croatian Ministry of Economy and the Qatari Ministry of Energy and Industry for technical cooperation and exchange of expertise in the field of energy.

The visit of the Qatari delegation shows that Croatia is a step closer to its goal of becoming a regional energy hub, Croatian Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak said after his talks with Qatari Energy Minister.

Vrdoljak said a memorandum of understanding in the energy technology sector, which the Croatian Economy Ministry and the Qatari Ministry of Industry and Energy signed, “opens the door to future concrete projects.”

The guests from Qatar expressed their interest in gas supply via a future LNG terminal on the northern Croatian island of Krk, Vrdoljak said adding that the talks focused on other projects as well, such as the Adriatic-Ionion gas pipeline and oil and gas explorations in the Adriatic.

Vrdoljak said Croatia was on the path of securing a reliable energy supply to its citizens at favourable prices.

Qatari Minister Al-Sada said he was glad that meeting had confirmed that Croatia and Qatar shared many values and that this was a good foundation for future cooperation.

Asked if Qatar was interested in building and financing the LNG terminal, Saleh Al-Sada said he would visit Krk later to get acquainted with all the parameters of the project after which he would decide how to proceed.
