Qatargas Launches Water Conservation Campaign at QP Environment Fair

‘Be Water Wise – Every Drop of Water Counts’ is the message Qatargas, the world’s largest LNG producer, has been driving home as a part of its water conservation campaign at this year’s Qatar Petroleum (QP) Environment Fair, Doha International Exhibition Centre.

The Fair has been held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry.

Out in strength the Qatargas Environmental Affairs Division has been representing Qatargas at the Fair providing visitors with useful tips on the water conservation and use at home and featured a water demonstration filtration system which highlighted the need for responsible management of water resources. In addition the three “water- powered” cars on display have highlighted the role water can have in the use of renewable energy. The Qatargas pavilion has been offering a variety of educational and fun activities for children focusing on the theme of water management and conservation.

Commenting on Qatargas’ participation in the Fair, Toufik Benmosbah, Chief Operating Officer, Safety, Environment & Quality (SEQ) stated that: “Qatargas is committed to demonstrating the highest standards of social and environmental practice at all of its facilities, and has been very proud to have participated in the QP Environment Fair 2011. Our pavilion at this year’s Fair has been designed to highlight the importance of responsible water use and its conservation for the future generations.

He added: “At Qatargas, improving our operations to minimise environmental impact remains a top priority. Therefore, we are committed to meet or exceed the most stringent government regulatory standards and promote environmentally-friendly practices. In demonstrating this, we recently received the first ever Green Award for our fleet of LNG carriers. At Qatargas, we believe that sustaining our environment is an obligation we owe to our future generations.

From the Fair, James Baldwin, Qatargas’ Environmental Manager added: “The message we have been communicating through our participation this year is that “we all play an important role in water conservation even at our homes and to be water wise as every drop counts” To support this concept we have had a number of water conservation-related activities at our stand designed to demonstrate the importance of using water responsibly and conserving it.

He added that: “Qatargas has an active Corporate Citizenship program which is an integral part of our business operations and management strategy and includes an annual Sustainability Report outlining our Corporate Citizenship initiatives. A key element of this program is a comprehensive Greenhouse Gas Management strategy which is being developed in line with the environment and economic pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
