Qatargas Takes Part in Process Safety Symposium

Qatargas participated in the Annual Qatar Process Safety Symposium held in Doha recently. The event titled “The Importance of Leadership Commitment in Making Safety a Core Value” was co-hosted by Texas A&M Qatar (TAMUQ) and Conoco Phillips Qatar.

Toufik Benmosbah, Qatargas Chief Safety, Environment and Quality Officerdelivered the plenary keynote lecture titled “Building a Process Safety Culture”. In his presentation he outlined how Qatargas manages safety and monitors safety performance, elaborating on Qatargas Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture and the various safety programmes and initiatives in place across Qatargas’ operations.

“Safety is a core value for Qatargas and an integral part of our culture at every level. Strong and proven safety culture is fundamental in a successful process safety programme implementation and leads to operational excellence. Part of integrated Safe Work Practices program, the Qatargas Process Safety Programme is a structured programme to operate within well-defined and understood operating limits, practice situational awareness, conduct proactive monitoring and manage abnormal situations,” he said.

Also representing Qatargas at the event was Joe Hobbs, the Jetty Boil-off Gas (JBOG) projects’ Head of Safety, Health, Environment and Security. Joe presented an overview of the JBOG project, highlighting the safety aspects and the excellent safety performance achieved.

“We are on a ‘leadership journey’ towards success and Incident and Injury Free work culture. Our slogan is ‘everybody goes home safe’ and this is what we are committed to achieve. We are determined to have proper communication between the JBOG Leadership Team and our workforce to show that we sincerely care about their safety and welfare,” he said.The event, attended by more than 100 participants from Qatar and abroad featured some 18 speakers presenting on topics including incident case studies, best practices in process safety, incident investigations and safety success stories. The event gathered distinguished speakers from countries including the US, UK, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.
