Quantum, Golar in USD 500 Mln LNG terminal deal

Quantum Pacific’s subsidiary in Ghana and Golar LNG signed a deal to build a $500 million LNG import terminal.

The facility that should directly deliver gas to the Volta River Authority by 2016 will be located offshore Tema, and it should boost the power generation of a country fighting with a power crisis.

Chief executive of Quantum Power Ghana Gas told Reuters, “A lot of work has already been done with payments committed to parts of the Tema LNG project. We are now aiming to complete all government approvals and secure gas supply and sales agreements for a final investment decision in the last quarter of this year.”

He also added that Golar LNG will provide the FSRU, currently being built by Samsung Heavy Industries, with the capacity of 250 million cubic feet of LNG per day, or 1.75 million tonnes annually, and that talks are ongoing with Technip to construct the subsea and onshore pipeline networks.

Ghana is also looking for future suppliers of LNG to the terminal.
