Following the installation of the jacket foundation on 15 March, the 2,900t topside for the second offshore substation at the Race Bank offshore wind farm was installed over the weekend.

Engie Fabricom and Iemants, in charge of supplying both substations, sent off the Race Bank 01 (ROW 01) from Hoboken in Belgium to the offshore construction site in the UK on 5 March.

The offshore works were carried out by Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL), which also installed Race Bank 02 (ROW 02), the first substation at the site, in August 2016.

Turbine installation is set to start by the end of April, with A2SEA’s Sea Installer already preparing for the job.

The 580MW offshore wind farm, consisting of 91 Siemens 6MW turbines, is planned to be completed in 2018.

Onshore construction for the Race Bank offshore wind project began in early 2015 with an onshore substation and the onshore cable works.

The wind farm is located off the North Norfolk coast and is being built out of DONG Energy’s construction base in the Grimsby Fish Docks.
