Rampion OWF Foundations Installation Complete

The installation of the 116 foundations for the Rampion offshore wind farm has been completed in the English Channel, E.ON informed.

In addition, all connective fittings have also been installed, which will be used later to mount the tower with the turbine nacelle and rotor blades. The foundations rise to a height of 20 meters above sea-level.

Work began in early February and was suspended as scheduled for the bream spawning season. Installation of the wind generating components will begin in spring 2017 and continue through the rest of the year, the company said.

The underwater cables will continue to be laid and preparations made for installing the transformer station. This infrastructure will allow the energy generated by the wind farm to be transported to the mainland.

The 400 megawatt project is being built 13 kilometers off the coast of Sussex and is a joint venture between E.ON, the British Green Investment Bank and Canadian energy producer, Enbridge.

Once completed, the wind farm will produce enough energy each year to supply roughly 350,000 households. The wind farm is scheduled to be finished and ready for operation in 2018.
