Rare cargo heading for UK’s Grain LNG terminal

UK’s Grain LNG terminal, located on the Isle of Grain, Kent is scheduled to receive, what can be described as a rare cargo of liquefied natural gas next week.

According to the AIS data provided by vessels tracking website, MarineTraffic, LNG carrier Cadiz Knutsen with the capacity to transport up to 138,000-cbm of liquefied natural gas is scheduled to dock at the terminal on February 23.

This is only the second cargo shipped to the UK so far this year. The previous cargo arrived at the South Hook LNG terminal on January 6 from the UK’s largest LNG supplier, Qatar.

According to the shipping data, the vessel set off from Trinidad and Tobago on February 1, making a stop at the Andres LNG terminal in the Dominican Republic on February 11, before setting the course for the UK.

George Nemeth, AES Corporation’s LNG business development director told Platts that the vessel loaded between 60,000 and 70,000 cubic meters of LNG, in what was the terminal’s first ever reload operation.

National Grid’s Grain LNG terminal has the capacity to handle 15 million tons of LNG per year, an equivalent of 20 percent’s of the UK’s demand.
