RasGas Receives GCC Award

RasGas Company has added yet another achievement to its array of successes in the field of environment when the company recently received the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) Award for Best Environmental Activities in the field of “Best Industrial Organisation Complying with Environmental Standards.”

“We are an active partner in Qatar’s drive for sustainable development. Our strong safety culture and operational performance underpins good environmental performance. We have invested heavily in projects that reduce emissions and enhance waste management and our commitment to implementing emission reduction programmes is based on the principles of energy efficiency, sound technology and cost-effectiveness,” RasGas managing director Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi said.

“RasGas has developed a comprehensive flare minimisation plan and has also demonstrated its commitment to the environment by undertaking significant retrofitting activities for its older combustion sources to meet or exceed the new nitrogen oxides limit set by the Qatar Ministry of Environment for facilities built before 2005. The extensive Dry Low NOx technology retrofit, a first in Qatar, demonstrates RasGas’ continuous efforts towards environmental protection,” he said.

This award is typically given to an industrial organisation operating in one of the GCC member states that has been complying with state environmental standards and criteria for a minimum of five consecutive years. In addition, the organisation should have contributed actively to the preservation of the environment and also should have made outstanding contributions in the areas of research, innovation and environmental awareness.

The award, instituted by the GCC Secretariat, was received by Hassan Ibrahim, RasGas environmental affairs manager, during a ceremony held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, under the patronage of the Ministers of Environmental Affairs in the GCC countries.
