Reef Subsea Secures Contract to Install Inter Array Cable for Greater Gabbard Wind Farm (UK)

Reef Subsea AS announced today that one of its Norwegian operating companies has signed a significant integrated contract to provide engineering and installation services associated to inter array cable installation inside the Greater Gabbard wind farm.

The principal contractor for the Project, Fluor, is providing EPC services to Greater Gabbard Offshore Winds Ltd. for a 500MW offshore wind farm off the Suffolk coast of the UK, which when complete, will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm.

Technocean AS, a subsea construction subsidiary of Reef Subsea AS, has been actively involved in the development of Thanet and Greater Gabbard wind farms, since it had been awarded a two-year contract (+3 one-year options) by Subocean, in August 2009, for the combined delivery of subsea construction vessel and ROV services. Due to recent circumstances affecting Subocean, Technocean has been given direct responsibility from Fluor to manage this part of the Project.

The CSV Polar Prince, which has been operating there for several months in 2009, is active again in infield cable laying operations. She is outfitted with ROV and cable laying spread. Technocean’s scope of work includes engineering and project management for installation and burial of infield power cables, pull-in and hang off to J-Tubes and pre- and post- site survey.

Mark Preece, Reef Subsea Chief Executive Officer, said “I am extremely pleased with Technocean being rewarded for their excellent work done in the first developments of these wind farms. Their experience and expertise gained in the oil & gas industry are directly transferrable to the renewables sector. This project will also involve other Reef Subsea Companies in ROV and survey operations with S3, as well as Scanmudring’s specialised Scanrovdredge.”

Reef Subsea AS is an international group providing cost-effective integrated subsea services to the oil & gas and renewables industries. Its specialised subsidiaries – Technocean, S³ and Scanmudring – provide operators and contractors with highly experienced personnel, key subsea technologies and construction support vessels.
