Remontowa Wins Two LNG-Powered Supply Vessels

Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. signed a contract on 5th of July 2013 for building two specialist vessels intended for supplying oil drilling and oil mining rigs.

The ships will be constructed for one of the biggest Norwegian offshore fleet owners. They have already been contracted for maintenance of a Shell oilfield in the North Sea. The value of the contract is nearly 100 million Euro (approx. $130 million).

Realization of this contract is of great importance to Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. since these will be the first supply vessels powered by LNG-fuelled engines. Previously, this technology was implemented in car-passenger ferries built by Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A.

It is worth mentioning that the said vessels will be fully constructed in Gdańsk – starting from preparing workshop documentation, going through building of the hull and ending up with complete outfitting and performing of sea trials. The vessels will be equipped with state-of-the-art navigation systems including an advanced dynamical positioning system DP2, gas-electric propulsion, firefighting system Fi-Fi 2 and facilities for containing of oil spills.

Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. has for many years been a well-recognized supplier of ships supporting oil mining industry. However, this time the supply vessels to be built are the first to use LNG propulsion. Thereby, the company will combine its experience in building ships with LNG propulsion and experience in the offshore sector.

We are convinced that the successful completion of such innovative projects will result in subsequent orders from clients of this highly demanding market, the company said in a release.

The 89 meter-long ships with a deck area of 980 m2 will be capable of carrying up to 5,400 tons. They will be served by a 25-man crew. The vessels will meet the highest standards of environmental protection and safety of navigation “CLEAN DESIGN” and will sail under the most reputable Norwegian flag.

The ships’ concept and technical documentation will be prepared by Norwegian Wartsila Ship Design office while the workshop documentation will be done by Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting, a part of Remontowa Group.

The ships will be built under the supervision of DNV classification society.
