Report: Argentina’s Enarsa faces more LNG cargo cancellations

Enarsa of Argentina is reportedly eyeing more cancellation and cargo deferrals during the month of October.

The state-owned company is looking to either cancel or defer three to four LNG cargoes scheduled for delivery in October, sources told Platts.

The company faced the same issue in September as mild winter temperatures in Argentina curbed the demand for natural gas.

According to the report, during the month of October, only one cargo has been delivered to each of Argentina’s two terminal’s, while Arctic Voyager has been holding off the coast of Bahia Blanca for two weeks already.

Enarsa has previously awarded contracts for eight cargoes for October delivery through a tender. Five of the eight cargoes were scheduled for delivery to the 500 mmscf/d GNL Escobar located on the Parana River, some 30 miles outside Buenos Aires.

The remaining three cargoes were scheduled for the Bahia Blanca terminal located some 400 miles south of Buenos Aires, with the same baseload regasification capacity.

LNG imports to Argentina for the winter period dropped to 2.42 Bcm from 2.52-Bcm year on year. Aggregate deliveries over the 12 month period prior to October were at 5.02 Bcm, 1.467 BCM, or 23 percent lower when compared to the same period a year before.
