Rhyl Flats Community Fund There for the Taking

RWE Innogy UK has invited local Welsh community groups to apply for grants from the Rhyl Flats Offshore Wind Farm Community Fund.

The fund has been set up to support community organisations and voluntary groups based in Rhyl and the following wards in Conwy: Pensarn, Colwyn, Eirias, Gele, Glyn, Kinmel Bay, Llanddulas, Llandrillo yn Rhos, Llysfaen, Mochdre, Pentre Mawr, Rhiw & Towyn.

The funding comes as part of a GBP 2 million cash injection into the local community over the lifetime of the wind farm by developer and wind farm operator RWE Innogy UK.

The fund is administered independently by the Conwy Community Fund Panel and the Welsh Government with grants between GBP 2,000 and GBP 10,000 available. The closing date for the current application window is Tuesday, 31 May.

Katy Woodington, RWE Innogy UK’s community investment officer, said: “The Rhyl Flats Community Fund can provide valuable and long-term support for a whole raft of local projects and groups. It can do this in a number ways, including launching new projects, funding building work or even meeting running costs and salaries. I encourage any groups interested in applying to the scheme, to find out more.”

Rhyl Flats is a 25 turbine wind farm located approximately 8 kilometers off the coast of North Wales. It has a maximum installed capacity of 90 MW and can provide enough clean energy to satisfy the needs of approximately 61,000 average homes in Wales every year.
