Rosneft, Sakhalin Governor Discuss Construction of LNG Facility

Rosneft President Igor Sechin and Sakhalin region’s Governor Alexander Khoroshavin signed a Supplement to the Cooperation Agreement. The parties agreed to discuss the construction of an LNG facility and all required gas pipeline infrastructure in the region.

The LNG facility is expected to be set up in a land plot in the vicinity of Ilyinskoye and Taranai villages, ecological safety being a prerequisite for the project to go ahead.

The agreements reached allow for a substantial expansion of the existing long-term cooperation between Rosneft and the Sakhalin region government. Current agreement envisages creation of favorable conditions for geological explorations on the island, for raising the efficiency of search and exploration of oil and gas fields and increasing the oil recovery factor, as well as for launching innovations and setting up information resources in this sphere. Special importance of the future cooperation is attached to the supplies of aviation fuels to Sakhalin region’s airports and the expansion of the Rosneft network of filling stations.

As part of its Sakhalin projects implementation Rosneft plans to invite regional production and engineering companies, other conditions being equal, as well as to employ local workforce and raw materials, facilitate the growth of Sakhalin’s municipal and regional infrastructure and create new jobs.
