The volumes will be regasified at GNPC’s processing capacities in the port of Tema where the company is developing an LNG import terminal.

Rosneft gas supplies will cover a quarter of Ghana’s energy demand, strengthen its energy security, Gazprom said in a statement on Friday.

During an economic forum in St. Petersburg Rosneft and GNPC also signed a framework cooperation agreement that envisages a joint study of high-priority directions of mutually beneficial cooperation in the development of oil and gas fields, oil and oil product supplies.

Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin said that besides the LNG supply deal, the documents signed “open up a wide exploration, production and trading possibilities for the company.”

GNPC’s LNG import project comprises a floating regasification barge, floating storage unit and a pipeline to an existing gas grid in Tema.

The FSRU is to be provided by the Höegh LNG through a 20-year deal with Quantum Power Ghana Gas.
