New Research Ship Seliger Heads Out for Acceptance Base in Baltiysk

The research ship Seliger will soon be ready for its first sea experiences. The ship, built by JSC Yantar Shipyard (Kaliningrad) for Russian Defense Ministry, will be transported to acceptance base in Baltiysk today, April 12.

According to Rusnavy.com, Seliger started its final stage of mooring trials in late March when it left the outfitting quay and commenced deperming.

After its arrival at Baltiysk, Seliger will start the sea trials and state acceptance trials, which are expected to finish in the summer. The ship will then head for the Black Sea.

Research ship Seliger is the lead vessel of Project 11982 developed by Almaz Central Design Bureau. The ship is designed for equipment trials, deep-sea researches, and search-and-rescue works. The shipbuilding contract was tied between JSC Yantar Shipyard and Russian Defense Ministry in Feb 2009. Keel-laying ceremony was held on July 8, 2009. Seliger is supposed to be commissioned in this year.
