Russia: Tanker Mira Built by Baltiysky Shipyard Commissioned

Group of Companies Baltic Fuel Company (BFC, St. Petersburg) and Baltiysky Zavod Shipyard have signed the acceptance and commissioning certificate for the third tanker in a series of four non-self-propelled oil tankers of 2734 Project during a solemn ceremony on the eve of the 156th anniversary of the shipbuilding company.

The vessel was named the “Mira” and was launched on April 27, 2012. In early June 2012 the vessel will set sail on her maiden voyage on the inland waterways of Russia.

All tankers of the series were ordered by Baltic Fuel Company for the transportation of oil products on the inland waterways. The first two ships, the tanker “Taisiya” (launched on September 27, 2011) and the tanker “Maria” (launched on December 29, 2011) started to operate in early May, with the opening of the 2012 river navigation.The hulls of non-self-propelled oil tankers of 2734 Project are reinforced with double bottom and double sides. The tanker tonnage is 5000 tons. The vessel’s length is 108.32 m, breadth – 16.86 m, depth – 4.75 m. The vessels are being built under the supervision of the Russian River Register in accordance with international environmental safety requirements, rules and regulations for commercial shipbuilding.

In the navigation of 2012 on Russia’s inland waterways Baltic Fuel Company plans to utilize for transportation of oil products six tankers of total capacity of 30,000 tons. The company plans to transport by its own fleet at least 500,000 tons of oil products. In the 2013 navigation BFC plans to strengthen its position in the field of oil products transportation on inland waterways of the Russian Federation, including through the construction of new fleet.
