Russian Trawler Sinks, 56 People Dead

Russian trawler Dalny Vostok has sunk in the Sea of Okhotsk leaving 56 dead out of 132 people on board.

According to the reports from Russian news agency Tass, the trawler sunk within 15 minutes around 250 kilometers south of the city of Magadan, on Thursday.

Sixty-three people were rescued, and thirteen people are still missing, with a search operation underway, Reuters reported.

More than 20 fishing vessels are conducting the search operation.

According to media reports, the main reason for the sinking of the trawler is the violation of safety rules by overloading the vessel.
