Saipem Hires Contractor for Ichthys LNG Project

SKILLED Offshore has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for a major contract with Saipem. Under the contract, SKILLED will provide manning services for the Gas Export Pipeline component of the INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG Project.

The project involves the construction of an 889 kilometre pipeline to connect the offshore processing facility to the onshore processing facility in Darwin. SKILLED will provide qualified construction & marine crews for the pipe-lay vessels.

Planning for the project will begin immediately. Construction and marine activity to lay the pipeline is expected to start around April-June 2014 and continue until mid-2015.

SKILLED Group CEO, McMahon said, “This contract win reflects SKILLED’s capability as Australia’s leading provider of flexible labour solutions, the development of an innovative solution to match client requirements and builds on our expanded presence in Darwin following our recent acquisition of Broadsword Marine Contractors.”

The total contract value is approximately $A200 million, with further potential for SKILLED to provide technical professional roles for the project.

The award is subject to completion of contract documentation which is expected to occur within the next four weeks.
