SapuraKencana Lands Origin's Otway Job in Australia

SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad  has announced that its Australian subsidiary SC Projects Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company incorporated in Australia, on April 26 received a contract from Origin Energy Resources Ltd for the Origin Otway Phase 3 Development.

The value of the contract is approximately $51 million AUD , for a contract period of 14 months.

The Origin Otway Phase 3 Development will be developed and operated by Origin together with its joint venture partners Toyota Tsusho (Australasia) Pty Ltd and Benaris International Pty Ltd.

SC Projects Pty Ltd’s scope of work will involve project management, installation engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and pre-commissioning works associated to the development of the Geographe discovery, located approximately 55 km offshore Port Campbell, Victoria, Australia.

The Otway Gas Project, located in southern Australia, is based on two offshore gas fields, Thylacine and Geographe, discovered in 2001 by exploration joint ventures operated by Origin. The Thylacine field is located in Tasmanian waters approximately 70 kilometres south of Port Campbell in Victoria, and the Geographe field is located 15 kilometres north of Thylacine in Victorian waters.

SapuraClough will utilise the vessel Normand Clough as the main installation vessel to carry out the work. A 117m Subsea Support Vessel is equipped with a saturation dive system, 2 x Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), a helideck, moon pool and accommodation for 120 personnel.

SapuraKencana is the new entity formed by a merger of Kencana Petroleum Bhd and SapuraCrest Petroleum Berhad.

According to the Borneo Post, the $3.8 billion merger has created Malaysia’s largest oilfield services provider, and one of the top five oil and gas services companies in the world by asset value.
