Scarabeo 5 to Drill on Statoil's Visund Sør Production Well (Norway)

Statoil has been granted consent to use the Scarabeo 5 mobile drilling rig for drilling and completion of a production well on Visund Sør.

Visund Sør is an oil and gas field located between the Gullfaks C and Visund facilities, approx. 125 km west-northwest of Bulandet in Sogn og Fjordane County. The field will be developed with a subsea template that will be tied in with Gullfaks C.

Water depth in the area is approx. 290 metres.

The field is located in block 34/8 in the northern part of the North Sea, and is part of production licence PL 120. Statoil Petroleum AS (Statoil) is the operator of the field with an ownership interest of 53.2 per cent. The other licensees are Petoro AS, ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS and Total E&P Norge AS.

Statoil has received the PSA’s consent to use the Scarabeo mobile drilling facility for drilling and completion of well 34/8-V-4, which will be a production well.

The plan is to start drilling in mid-July 2012 at the earliest, with a planned duration of 60 days.

Scarabeo 5 is a semi-submersible drilling rig, built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa, Italy in 1990 and registered in the Italian ship registry. The facility is owned and operated by Saipem. It received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in May 2003.
