Scientific Instrumentation Installed Onboard R/V Sally Ride

The research vessel (R/V) Sally Ride has been re-floated following the installation of the scientific instrumentation onboard the vessel.

The installation required the drydock of the vessel in order to work on sensors mounted on the hull beneath the waterline.

Before being re-floated on Tuesday, the vessel underwent two-and-a-half week of works during which the installation of two seafloor mapping systems was carried out, along with the mid-water imaging system used for fisheries research, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego informed.

Also, a suite of acoustic doppler current profilers, acoustic tracking system, and through-hull penetrations, where scientists can lower sensors of their own into the water beneath the ship, were installed.

Once afloat, the ship was moored alongside the Anacortes shipyard wharf, where construction activities will continue through May and into June, Scripps added.
