SembCorp Marine Integrates Its Operations

Singapore’s Prime Minister Mr. Lee Hsien Loong today opened the first phase of SembCorp Marine’s new Integrated Yard at Tuas, the second phase will be operational in three to four years’ time. The company aims to consolidate all its Singapore yards into one mega-yard by 2024.

“The marine and offshore industry is one of our success stories. We produce no oil, and have no major oil companies of our own. Yet the two leading marine and offshore companies in the world are Singaporean: SembCorp Marine and Keppel Offshore & Marine,” said Singapore PM Mr. Lee.

“Today I opened the first phase of SembCorp Marine’s new Integrated Yard at Tuas. When all three phases are fully completed in 2024, SCM will integrate all its operations in one site, and operate much more efficiently and productively,” continued Mr. Lee.

SembCorp Marine currently operates five other yards in Singapore: Sembawang Shipyard, Jurong Shipyard, PPL Shipyard, Jurong SML and SMOE. Facilities such as Sembawang Shipyard sit on land that has good potential to be redeveloped into waterfront residential property, reports Seatrade.

“We will continue to upgrade the marine & offshore industry, just as we are upgrading other sectors of our economy. This will ultimately create more opportunities and better jobs for our people,” Mr. Lee said.

SembCorp Marine Integrated Yard at Tuas will be equipped with 4 VLCC size drydocks with a total capacity of 1.55 million deadweight tonnes as well as finger piers and basin lengths totalling 3.9 kilometres. The new yard will be capable of undertaking FPSO conversions as well as servicing a wide range of vessels, including VLCCs, new generation of mega containerships, LNG carriers, cruise ships, semi-submersible rigs, offshore vessels and fixed platforms.

Once fully completed, the new yard will cover 209 hectares.
