Sevan Brasil Arrives in Brazil

Norwegian drilling contractor, Sevan Drilling, reported that Sevan Brasil ultra deepwater drilling rig arrived to Rio de Janeiro on 29 April, 2012 and is undergoing preparations for the acceptance testing with Petrobras.

Sevan Brasil, built by COSCO Nantong Shipyard, was loaded onto the Dockwise owned heavy-lifter Mighty Servant 1 and went on a journey from China to Brazil on March 7.

Despite being delivered to Sevan Drilling on schedule and within budget, the rig’s voyage to Brazil took longer than expected due to bad weather which forced the heavy-lifter to make a short stop at the Maldives.

The rig, of not so typical, cylindrical, design, has been chartered by the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras under a six year contract. It measures 99 meters in LOA (length of all), 75 meters in breadth and 24.5 meters in depth.

Sevan Drilling said that the contract with Petrobras was unhampered by the late arrival of the rig:“We reiterate our previous guidance that Sevan Brasil remains on schedule for start-up under the Petrobras contract during the second quarter 2012.”
