Shell Keen On UK Offshore Wind Despite Looming Brexit – Reuters

Shell is interested in entering the UK offshore wind market, Mark Gainsborough, executive vice president at Shell New Energies, told Reuters.

The company plans to crack the UK offshore wind market through either acquiring a share in an existing project, acquiring an entire project, or by securing seabed leases later this year, Gainsborough told Reuters in an interview.

These plans are expected to proceed in spite of the UK’s intention to leave the European Union at the end of March, Gainsborough said, adding that the most important thing would be for the UK government to continue to provide policies supportive of the offshore wind.

Shell established the New Energies division in 2016 and committed to investing USD 1 billion a year in alternative energy sources by the end of the decade.

Since then, the energy major has been active in the offshore wind industries in the USA, where the company has several ongoing projects, the Netherlands, and France.

The company is also actively supporting the development of kite power energy systems, as well as floating wind technology.
