Shell: Repairs to Begin at Glider Field

Shell has been given green light by the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) to start repairs at Glider field, following the release of oil from its subsea infrastructure last week.

Glider field is located in Green Canyon Block 248 in the Gulf of Mexico. The incident was reported approximately 90 miles south of Timbalier Island, Louisiana.

An ROV inspection confirmed the flow line source of the release, and that segment of the line has been isolated, Shell reports.

Production from four Glider wells has been suspended while the nearby Brutus field has resumed again.

There are no injuries reported and no personnel have been evacuated. The total subsea release from the four wells is estimated to be 2,100 barrels of oil. Shell’s latest update said that the joint efforts have recovered about 1,229 barrels of oily-water mixture.
