SHI Builds World’s Largest FPSO

After receiving its first order to build jack-up rigs for Norwegian Statoil ASA, Samsung Heavy Industries Co Ltd.(SHI) today revealed that it has scored another major order. This time the order relates to the construction of a multi-billion floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit that, according to SHI, will be the world’s largest.

The FPSO will measure 330 meters in length, 61 meters in width and 34 meters in height, with a capacity to carry 2.3 million barrels of crude. The facility will be put to use for offshore crude production in the latter half of 2017.

With today’s order Samsung Heavy Industries has so far won orders worth some $7.8 billion, about 60 percent of this year’s $13 billion target.
