Skangas ticks off another first for its LNG bunker vessel

Skangas’ bunkering vessel, Coralius, completed its first tanks cooldown and LNG bunkering operation in the open sea.

The receiving vessel LEG/C Navigator Aurora was supplied with just under 500 mt LNG in the middle of a voyage between Sweden and South Europe, Skangas said.

The complete operation took place at Danafjord outside Gothenburg over the past weekend.

To switch from using diesel oil as fuel to using LNG a cooling down operation of the Navigator Aurora’s fuel gas tanks from ambient conditions to minus 160 degrees had to take place. This first bunker operation took less than 24 hours with the transfer of the main parcel taking 6 hours.

Skangas added that this operation was an industry milestone, as LNG bunkers is supplied to vessels whilst transiting between ports.
