SMART Looks to Commission Feasibility Study for Placing of Artificial Reef in Sound of Mull (UK)

Sound of Mull Artificial Reef Trust (SMART) is looking to commission a feasibility study for the placing of an artificial reef in the Sound of Mull, West Coast of Scotland. The reef will be a decommissioned British Naval vessel.

The feasibility will have to consider the economic, technical and environmental impacts of this project. Scope of the feasibility includes the purchase, environmental cleaning, transport and placing of the reef on the seabed.

The study will research the suitability of 3 areas of seabed in the Sound of Mull, with regard to environmental impact, diving suitability and statutory permissions/licences. In addition to the placing of the reef on the seabed the feasibility will also consider the ongoing maintenance, monitoring and marketing of the reef as a marine tourism attraction and a marine habitat.

Tender deadline is 19.9.2011.
