SOCAR welcomes Petronas delegation

Azerbaijan’s state-owned oil company, SOCAR, represented by its President Rovnag Abdullayev, received a delegation led by Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, President and CEO of Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas.

Abdullayev welcomed the guests on Monday by speaking about the long-term useful cooperation between SOCAR and Petronas and said the partnership projects between the companies were progressing successfully.

Wan Ariffin spoke of his previous visits to the Azeri company and stated that the two companies are successfully working on the Shah Deniz-2 project and that Petronas is interested in expanding the cooperation.

Rovnag Abdullayev informed the delegation on the process of implementing Shah Deniz and Southern Gas Corridor projects. He said that the works on the second phase development of Shah Deniz field and construction of pipelines are going according to schedule.

Both parties have expressed confidence that Turkey will be able to transport gas via its territory in 2018.

To remind, in April 2015, Petronas bought Statoil’s 15.5 percent participating interest in the Shah Deniz production sharing agreement as well as stakes in the South Caucasus Pipeline Company, SCPC holding company, and in the Azerbaijan Gas Supply Company (AGSC) for a total of $2.25 billion.
