Songa Endurance Experiences BOP Failure

Songa Endurance, a semi-submersible drilling rig which started operations on Troll field, has experienced BOP equipment failure.

As Songa Offshore reported, the rig started operations on December 31, 2015, on the eight-year contract with Statoil on Troll field, around 65 kilometers west of Kollsnes.

While performing a final test the rig experienced BOP equipment failure, which is currently being repaired, the company said.

The cause of the incident has been identified and all required spare parts are on the rig.

Recently, Songa Endurance has received the Petroleum Safety Authority’s Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC).

The rig, second in a series of four Category D semi-submersible drilling rigs, was specifically built for Statoil job.
