South Africa: Authorities Start Removal of Oil from Sunken Dredger in Ngqura Harbour

Authorities have started the removal process of 70 tons of fuel oil and six tons of hydraulic oil from the sunken dredger in the Ngqura Harbour.

We anticipate that it will have a minimal impact. There are ships being unloaded and loaded and ships can come in and out of the port without any interference. Long term we don’t anticipate an impact on operations in the port,” said Brinton Spies, Transnet Port Authority acting chief executive.

Completion of Ngqura Harbour dredging operation is scheduled for June.
